According to a Bloomberg report that cited sources familiar with the matter, the executive order will direct the Labor Department to clear a path for 401(k)s to invest in those alternative assets. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer will have to revisit Employee Retirement Income Security Act guidance and coordinate with agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Treasury Department on possible rule changes to permit the investments.  Americans Could Soon Gain Exposure To Bitcoin ETFs The executive order could also unlock exposure to spot Bitcoin ETFs (exchange-traded funds) for 401(k) investors.  Up until now, institutional investors have been increasing their crypto exposure, with spot BTC ETFs recording over $53.7 billion in net inflows since their launch in January last year, data from Farside Invest...

Crypto market wipes over $700 billion since Trump’s return to White House

Image
Donald Trump’s re-election in November 2024 proved to be an impressive bullish catalyst for the cryptocurrency market, as it swiftly led to a rally for many digital assets. This rally generated 11,000 new Bitcoin (BTC) millionaires and enabled BTC to reach above $100,000, eventually hitting its intraday all-time high (ATH) of over $109,000. Donald Trump’s actual presidency had the opposite effect, as it led many cryptocurrencies lower as they began following other risk assets in their downturn amidst the growing economic uncertainty.  Indeed, when the billionaire took office, the total digital assets market capitalization stood at $3.46 trillion – approximately $210 billion above the January 1, 2025, valuation – and, by press time on April 21, it collapsed to $2.7 trillion. In total, cryptocurrencies erased about $760 billion in the three months since Trump became president. Cryptocurrency market capitalization YTD chart. Source: TradingView Cry...

Bitcoin dips below $90K hours after SBF tweets for first time since entering prison

Bitcoin (BTC) slipped below $90,000 on Tuesday, just hours after jailed former FTX supremo Sam Bankman-Fried tweeted for the first time since beginning his 25-year sentence for multiple fraud and conspiracy offenses. The dip to $88,780 represents a 19% slide from its $109,114 all-time high on January 20 – the date of Donald Trump’s inauguration – and is BTC’s lowest point since November. At the time of writing, it has seen a slight rebound to $89,154. BTC’s dramatic slide is part of a wider dip across the crypto industry. Rival currency ether (ETH) saw an 11% drop to $2,390 earlier today while Binance’s BRB token, Ripple’s XRP, and Solana’s SOL dropped 6.4%, 14.3%, and 15% respectively. Not even Donald Trump’s own token $TRUMP was safe, seeing its own price tumble 14% in 24 hours and 82% from its all-time high. The seemingly industry-wide drop-off comes just days after crypto exchange Bybit was hacked for somewhere in the region of $1.4 billion in ETH and staked ether...

Post-halving 2024 market is pushing Bitcoin’s price, not just Trump, says Onramp Bitcoin co-founder

Image
The last Bitcoin halving took place in April when the block reward dropped from 6.25 Bitcoin to 3.125 Bitcoin Jesse Myers said Bitcoin’s price needs to go higher for a “supply-demand price” balance to happen When that occurs, the market will “flywheel into mania and a bubble,” which happened in the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Bitcoin halving events Donald Trump’s re-election into the White House isn’t “the main story” for Bitcoin’s recent price rally, says Onramp Bitcoin’s co-founder. In a post on X, Jesse Myers said the main reason is that the market is at the “6+ months post-halving” mark. Taking place every four years, the last Bitcoin halving occurred in April when the block reward dropped from 6.25 Bitcoin to 3.125. Here’s how the market is pricing the US presidential elections today

Image
The US presidential election has started today, on November 5, and the market is already pricing its outcome as over 70 million Americans are casting ballots in person to decide upon Donald Trump or Kamala Harris as the next United States president. According to data retrieved by Finbold, Trump leads the dispute in the two most popular prediction markets by press time. This is a notably different scenario than what was seen from legacy media survey polls, as we reported this weekend. In particular, over $2 billion in bets on Polymarket price a 61.7% victory for the Republican candidate. Meanwhile, Kalshi traders are pricing a 59% chance of victory for Donald Trump, which has been rising in both markets.
